Growing in Faith
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
~2 Peter 3:18 NRSV
Here you will find additional resources to help you grow in faith and in your relationship with God and neighbors.
One of the best ways to learn about God and what God is doing in the world is to read the Bible. BibleGateway provides numerous, online translations of the Scriptures. ELCA Lutherans most commonly read from the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), and this is the translation we use in worship and ministry at MULC. Feel free, however, to explore and read from the translation that works best for you.
Have you ever wondered how the Bible readings we use in worship are selected for a given day? We use the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL). The lectionary operates on a three-year (years A, B, & C), rotating cycle, each year focusing upon one of the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke). The lectionary provides a great way to read through the majority of the bible, although some passages are not included. If you want to know what the appointed readings will be for a particular week, you can find them using the lectionary.
Another resource Lutheran Christians use to grow in the faith is The Small Catechism. The catechism instructs us in the Ten Commandments, the Apostle's Creed, the Lord's Prayer, the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and the Altar (aka Holy Communion or Eucharist), and various blessings which are key to our life of faith and relationship with God.
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)
The ELCA is the Christian denomination to which MULC belongs. You may read more about the ELCA and its teachings by exploring its website.
Northern Great Lakes Synod (NGLS)
The ELCA is comprised of 65 synods and 9 regions. MULC is located in the Northern Great Lakes Synod in Region 5. Visit the NGLS website to learn more about the synod.
Prayfaithfully is a daily devotional resource of the NGLS that is written by clergy, deacons, and lay persons living and serving throughout the synod. Read the devotions here.
As Lutheran Christians, we believe that God, in Jesus Christ, has freed us from sin, death, and the devil through Christ's death and resurrection, and has freed us for loving and serving our neighbors. One ways we share the love of Christ by serving neighbors is through social justice. The ELCA has written and adopted several social statements addressing various areas of concern in our world. We encourage you to read these statements and prayerfully consider how God may be calling you to love and serve the neighbors in your life.
